Presidential Remarks
The President made a proposal that we set up yet another job," Word of the Day", for an SMC meeting.
In the activity of " Word of the Day", the person in charge of the activity is to present a word or phrase that the rest of us are recommended to use at that day's meeting as often as possible. The difference between "Lecture" and " Word of the Day" is you've got to go over a word or phrase that you want to present to the rest of the members and teach us how to use it from A to Z. By setting up another job, we could save enough time for prepared speeches. That's the name of the game.

Prepared Speeches
<Coordinator> SM Kaneko
Today, I took the word 'coordinator' for my speech. I have a volunteer job at Machida International Center, which is called 'a coordinator of intermediate English'. According to the dictionary, a coordinator is 'a person whose job is to organize events or activities and to negotiate with others in order to ensure they work together effectively.' What I'm doing there is exactly what it means. On the other hand, at SMC meetings, we use the word in the meaning of 'MC (master of ceremonies).' So, the same word can be used in multiple ways.
<How to Make Native Speakers> SM Yu. Narisawa
(The speaker played the song "Mickey Mouse March" with a compact speaker.)
Children sing a song merrily and listen to English every day.
I think children grow up to be native speakers that way.
Take "Mickey Mouse March" for example, and try to sing together with them.
Even if you 've got a sheet of lyrics, you can't follow them easily.
<Non-alcoholic beer > SM Yu. Noro
I'm into drinking non-alcoholic beer every day. I recommended non-alcoholic beer based on some merits in terms of prices, health, and placebo effects. For placebo effects, I detailed about the effects, saying that “one thing to note is that the placebo effect seems to work both positively and negatively. In my case, as an alcohol lover, the placebo effect of my belief works in positive direction, but of course beliefs can also work in a negative direction.”
<My recent interests> SM Yamazaki
The NHK Special that was broadcast last Sunday was interesting to me. The program featured "carbon neutral" which was timely for COP26. From the program, I learned some initiatives are undertaken in France such as abolition of five domestic flights on routes that can be covered by train. With this program, the amount of emissions can be lowered to one-eighteenth, they said.
