Hi everyone!

We got together for the first time in about a month at Seishin Community Center since the last time we met.

SM Takahata and SM Koizumi served as the Coordinator and the Lecturer respectively.

The meeting started with the Presidential Remarks saying that he made some comments about his linguistic challenges in communications with his colleagues with some witty jokes.

Lecturer

"A Sacred Place of Healing and of Hope"

The materials we worked on were from the address given by the US former President Obama, reading aloud the English according to the audio speech by the president. The address was entitled as "9/11 Museum Dedication".

SM K. Narisawa added a phrase of "unsung hero"(a hero not praised or famous but deserving to be)

Table Topic Speech

"Who do you think of first when you think of success?"(SM K. Narisawa) The speaker raised his elder brother, saying that he would find great success in any business world with his consistent positive mindset.

"What is the favorite way to cool off in the summertime?"(SM Noro)

The speaker made complaints that his most favourite activity - swimming - is restricted due to the fear of coronavirus infections. Members suggested other options such shaved ice and somen with a topping of Japanese ginger.

"What do you love to practice?"(SM Kaneko)

The speaker mentioned his favorite practice of shadowing in a consistent manner.

SM Takahata and SM Koizumi added comments about practicing the piano and social dancing respectively.

"What is your hidden talent?(SM Yo. Narisawa)

The speaker mentioned the ability of calculation (addition in particular) as her given talent, saying that her talent was described as even genius level. SM K. Narisawa added gratitude that the ability was passed on to her son.

"What have you lost in interest recently?"(SM Koizumi)

The speaker said that he has recently been working on Danshari(minimalism).

Also he added comments about the loss of interest in his former business matter.

"If you would take a simple photograph of your life, what would it look like?"(SM Yamazaki)

The speaker talked about his cherished memories of his childhood. From this, he said the photo would be one with a background of beautiful nature.

Prepared Speech

"I'm an ordinary teacher."(SM K. Narisawa)

He said in his view, an inspiring teacher is ideal from among wide range of teachers. He raised a good example of a student who was inspired to be a teacher even after dropping to a bottom level of academic record.

"Funeral"(SM Kaneko)

The speaker talked about the funeral for his mother's brother who passed away at the age of 91. Due to the fear of coronavirus infections, no food was served with only a petbottle of drink). He said the dead person had an experience of making business trips in his prime and the suvenior given from the uncle gave him an inspiration of English study.

"BLM movement affects IT Terminology"(SM Noro)

With rising movement of BLM(Black Lives Matter), IT industry has been promoting the paraphrasing of the conventional IT terminologies such as Master & Slave according to the speaker.

He also offered the question of whether or not we need to paraphrase Speech Master's Club.

"My new job"(SM Yo. Narisawa)

The speaker talked about the news about her new job of teaching English at an elementary school for the 5th graders. Attended members shared the actual situation of students with the enthusiasm of English study at her lessons with the speaker, saying that they jumped up and down, jockeying for attention, and wanted to be the first to answer them.

"Go To Okutama Campaign"(SM Yamazaki)

The speaker talked about the campaign that Okutama Town has been promoting to encourage young people to settle there. People living outside the town are entitled to live in a renovated house provided by the municipality for free provided that they promise to live there for 15 years.
