<Lecture>

Review exercise

この1年間にSMCで紹介された様々な英語表現について、穴埋め形式で振り返りました。

改めて記憶力の減退に愕然としましたが・・・めげずに口に出して使うことで、自分のものにしていきたいです。（以下、抜粋）

1 Your efforts will surely bear (fruit). = Your efforts will pay off.

2 He was called on the (carpet) by his boss to explain his excessive spending. = He was criticized by his boss for his excessive spending.

3 If you have (twenty-twenty) vision, you don’t need glasses. = If you can see things normally, you don’t need glasses.

4 He is in the (doghouse) for missing the deadline. = He is annoyed with his missing deadline.

5 The coast is (clear). = It is safe for you to do something without being seen or caught.

6 It’s time to (hit) the books. = It’s time to study hard.

7 He left no (stone) unturned in his search to find the ring. = He did everything he could in order to find the ring.

与えられたトピックについて話すのが難しい場合、うまく話を展開させながら、自分が話せる内容に持っていく・・・今回もPresidentのspeechから学びました。

<Prepared Speech>

-A study of translation (Noroさん)

先日、村上春樹氏が、母校の早稲田大学に自身の創作資料を寄贈すると報じられました。その作品は世界中で翻訳されていますし、村上氏自身も翻訳家として活躍しています。翻訳についての村上氏の発言に触発されて、今回の記者会見の翻訳を試みたspeechでした。

- Moderation in all things (K. Narisawaさん)

成長されたお子さん達との家族旅行のエピソードから、Moderation in all thingsという教訓を得たというお話。小さかった頃のお子さん達との楽しいふれあいの情景も浮かんできて、心温まるspeechでした。

- Memories in Hokkaido (Takahata)

日本の中では特異な気候の故郷北海道・・・みかんや柿、さつまいも、里芋など、本州にきて初めて見たものや、初雪を知らせる雪虫のことなど、北海道の思い出についてspeechしました。
