こんにちは。Yamazakiです。

6月9日（土）小山公民館でのSMCを報告します。

K. Narisawaさん、Y. Narisawaさん、Kanekoさん、Noroさん、そして初参加のIsobeさん（通称Betty）、Yamazakiの6名の参加でした。IsobeさんはK. Narisawaさんの同僚です。

ConductorはYamazaki、LecturerはYo. Narisawaさんでした。

◆ Prepared Speech

“Honesty is the best policy” (K. Narisawaさん)

嘘にまつわるご自身の体験などをお話しになりました。

. he spoke in a rapid-fire sort of way.

. speak something empty of meaning

. he didn’t make a head or tail of nonsense

. without missing a beat

. it takes thinking on one’s feet（機転を働かす）

“Collocations” (Kanekoさん)

自然な英語を話すのにポイントとなる”collocations”についてのお話しでした。

”fast/sound asleep”, strong tea/ weak tea, strong cigarette/mild cigarette, strong smell/faint smell”

“Preferences” (Noroさん)

右利き、左利きについて考察したスピーチでした。

野球などのスポーツ以外では、親から矯正されることがあった左利きですが、最近は問題視されることがなくなってきているなどのお話しがありました。

“Kendo club’s advisory teacher” (Isobeさん)

勤務先の剣道クラブの顧問をされているIsobeさんの

剣道の試合についてのお話しでした。英語を話すことにあまり抵抗感を感じさせない滑らかな話っぷり、しかも２０代ということで、SMCに新風を吹き込んでくれそうで楽しみです！

◆ Presidential remarks

“be one-up”

～より一歩先に出る［リードする・差をつける・上手に出る］、～より優位［有利］に立つ、同様にgain/get/have upper handの紹介もありました。

次回６月２３日（土）も会場は小山公民館です。
