こんにちは。Yamazakiです7月22日のSMCを報告します。今回も大変遅くなり、すみません。

◆ Lecture

３種類の英語クイズでした。

単語穴埋め、リスニング、パチンコ店でのヘンテコ英語の修正問題。

・I was the (height) of luxury and a perfect place for a honeymoon.

・Joking was the (furthest) thing from his mind.

・It’s (hardly) news that most successful CEOs are early risers.

◆ Prepared Speech

・“Time” (Yu. Narisawa)

還暦を過ぎた人が子供の頃の感じた一日の時間の経つ速さと今感じる速さの違いについてのスピーチでした。用意されたものではなく、ほとんど即興でのスピーチのようでした。いつも、ユーモアで聴衆を引き込んでしまうのには、お人柄を感じます。

・“We must not take our eye off the ball with schoolyard bulling” (Hirabayashiさん)

天声人語の英訳版。

Under Japan’s law to prevent torment at school, however, any act that causes anguish to the person to whom it was done is defined as bulling.

・“Visiting my homeland” (Takahataさん)

20年ぶりに北海道に帰郷し、フライトアテンダント時代の友人たちと旧交を温めたというお話しでした。北海道は気候も風景も変わってしまった部分はありながら、自然、人情、友情は昔のままという点が印象に残りました。

・“Service” (Y. Narisawa)

行きつけのガソリンスタンドで、体験した思わぬサービスのこと、愛川町で始めるお年寄り見守りサービスの一環として、各家のゴミを玄関先までゴミ回収に出向くというサービスの話でした。

・“Trump climate decision won’t matter” (Yamazaki)

米国トランプ政権の国連気候変動枠組み協定（パリ協定）からの離脱は、かねてから予想されていたとは言え、衝撃でした。しかし、米国国内はもとより世界の潮流は間違いなく、排出ガス削減の方向で動いているので、あまり重大視することはないという、The Japan Timesの記事を織り込んでのスピーチでした。

◆ Presidential remarks

スモールトークの英語から時事英語まで、幅広くカバーするPresidentの英語力にいつも刺激を受けています。
