こんにちは。Yamazakiです。5月13日のSMCを報告します。K. Narisawaさん、Y. Narisawaさん、Hirabayashiさん、Kanekoさん、Masudaさん、Yamazakiの6名の参加でした。ConductorはKanekoさん、LecturerはMasudaさんでした。
今回のConductorはKanekoさんでした。
◆ Lecture
トランプ大統領の就任演説のシャドーイングでした。 “We will make America great again”
私が気に入ったパラグラフは以下です。
“We are one nation and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams, and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny. The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all American.”

- “Telltale signs” (K. Narisawaさん)
人の表情、しぐさで自信の有り無し、自分への尊敬の念の有り無しがわかるもの。隠しきれないもの(telltale signs)のお話しでした。
覚えておきたい英語表現としては、
“One teacher turned out to a stickler for rule though I had a very different first impression from him. Another turned out to be exactly what I thought he was.”
“On the other hand, when we are giving a poorly organized speech, we are not expressive.”

40年ぶりの同窓会で変容ぶりが激しく、一目で誰だかわかってもらえないでショックを受けた大学の同級生のこと、電車でたまたますぐ隣の席に座った人とその前に立っていた連れ合いらしき人が大学の同級生で、35年ぶりの再会だったかもしれないというまるでドラマのようなお話しで大変興味深かったです。またスピーチの物語の展開の表現が大変素晴らしく勉強になりました。

地球の周りでもう数千の衛星が回っているという。その衛星同士の衝突のリスクが懸念され、民間企業の損害補償の財政的援助に日本政府に乗り出すというニュースの勉強でした。

たまたま計った体重が前年比で8kg以上も太っていたことに気づき、原因が何であったか分析したことの話でした。
◆ Presidential remarks
勤務先の高校の英語での、英語による授業ではできるだけ簡単な英単語を使うことを意識していられるという。SMCでは難しい単語も含めてボキャブラリーを増やしていこうというメッセージでした。
次回5月27日(土)は、ConductorはHirabayashiさん, LecturerはYamazakiの予定です。
また午後は茶室で引き続きのSMC拡大版という新しい試みがあります。基本的に”chat”です。
次々回は6月10日（第2土曜日）,6月24日 （第4土曜日）、いずれも小山公民館、9時30分〜12時です。7月の予定は決まり次第お知らせします。
