こんにちは。Yamazakiです。2月11日のSMCを報告します。

K. Narisawaさん、Y. Narisawaさん、Hirabayashiさん、Kanekoさん、Takahataさん、Yamazakiの6名の参加でした。ConductorはHirabayashiさん、LecturerはK.Narisawaさんでした。

◆ Lecture

Steeleの小説’Country’での表現の文脈からイディオムの意味を類推するというものでした。

- talk a mile minute: to talk very quickly without stopping - feel like a fifth wheel: e.g. someone who is in a situation where they are not really needed or are ignored by other people I don't have a role in the office any more - I feel like a fifth wheel. - in the card: likely to happen

いずれも、口語表現として覚えておきたいものばかりでした。

◆ Prepared Speech

- “Have you ever wasted money on something useless?” （Y. Narisawaさん）

向学心に燃えて大金をはたいて買った15巻のOED (Oxford English Dictionary)を、結局ほとんど使わずにごみ同然に処分したというお話でした。似たような経験は誰にでもあるのではないでしょうか。

覚えておきたい表現として、”This is a typical case of pearls before swine.”

- “Four seasons” (M. Kanekoさん)

四季それぞれ感じる良い点、悪い点についてのスピーチでした。梅もほころび始めた今日この頃、タイムリーなスピーチだと思いました

- “How can I organize my objects of memory?” (Takahataさん)

「そのうちに」と思っていても、実際はなかなか進まない断捨離を始めたというTakahataさんのお話しでした。

印象に残ったのは”The problem is that old photos take me back to the time and make the time pass quickly”。

- “Have you noticed any good news?” (Yamazaki)

発足間もないトランプ大統領の言動が毎日のようにニュースになっている現状についてのスピーチでした。
