こんにちは。9月10日のSMCはK. Narisawaさん、Y. Narisawaさん、Kanekoさん、Takahataさん、Yamazakiの5名の参加でした。ConductorはTakahataさん、LecturerはKanekoさんでした。
PresidentのOpening remarkで開幕。
◆ Lecture
Rudolf Flesch (1911 – 1986）著 ”The ABC OF STYLE A GUIDE TO PLAIN ENGLISH” を順番に読み合せました。
Plain Englishとは何か。下記の通りネットから引用しました。

Plain English (or layman's terms) is a style of communication that uses easy to understand, plain language with an emphasis on clarity, brevity, and avoidance of overly complex vocabulary. It is commonly used in relation to official government or business communication. The goal is to write or speak in a way that is easily understood by the target audience. It is clear and straightforward, concise, free of clichés and needless technical jargon, and appropriate to the audience's developmental or educational level and their familiarity with the topic.

◆ Prepared Speech
- Happiness is a relative thing? (K. Narisawaさん)
リオパラリンピック関連で、幸福について絶対的な尺度がなく、相対的(relative)なものだという主張のスピーチでした。また、限りない物質的幸福を戒めた”You can’t be happy if you make a practice of keeping up with the Jones.” の一文もあり。
・ スピーチにあったブータンの国民幸福度 (GNH: Gross National Happiness)は世界的な国力を計るモノサシの国民総生産(GDP: Gross Domestic Product)に対するアンチテーゼ。 ・ Paralympics= paraplegic+ Olympicsの造語。
- Entertainment (Y. Narisawaさん)
茨城の田舎で生まれ育った洋子さんの限られた子供の頃の娯楽についてのなつかしい思い出と、最近遊びに行った物まねショーのお話。
- Encounter with people (Yamazaki)
日々遭遇する見知らぬ人とのすれ違いと友人関係に発展する人との出会い、また小田急特別快速で寝過ごし、町田で降りるべきところ下北沢まで行ってしまったお話など。
◆ Presidential Remarks
Narisawa President （ConductorのTakahataさんからも）から、世界的な権威がある海外専門雑誌(Acta Materialia)に論文が掲載されることになったMasudaさんへの言及、称賛の言葉がありました。それに比べれば取るに足らない私、Yamazakiの国連英検HPへの合格体験記掲載についてもお褒めのことばをいただきました。
