こんにちは。Yamazakiです。 今回も遅くなりましたが、7月9日のSMCを振り返ります。 今回はK. Narisawaさん、Y. Narisawaさん、Hirabayashiさん、Kanekoさん、Yamazakiの5名の参加でした。 ConductorはKanekoさん、LecturerはY. Narisawaさんでした。
今回のConductorはKanekoさんでした。
◆ Opening Remarks
連日の暑さで思わず授業中テキストで汗をぬぐってしまう、というお話でした。
◆ Lecture
同音異義語 (homophone, homonym) の穴埋め問題でした。全２０問、各問題の例文を辞書にあたって作成されたとのことです。勉強不足を感じるとともに、今後homonymにも意識してボキャビルに取り組んでいこうと思いました。
1. (Wrap) the dishes with soft paper, please. I heard a (rap) on the door. (*ドアをトントンとたたく)
2. The tree put (forth) new leaves. Her apartment was on the (fourth) floor. (*新しい葉を出す)
3. His new book is (due) to be published next year. The grass glistened with (dew). (*露に光る)
4. Please (peel) a label off the bottle. They heard a sudden (peal) of laughter. (*大きな笑い声)
5. Don’t (waste) your money on things you don’t need. She has a large (waist).

◆ Table topic speech 各スピーカーが持参してきたもの、身に着けているものをテーマにとのスピーチでした。

- Good leader (K. Narisawaさん)
４度のオリンピック金メダリストの柔道コーチ野村さんが引退後いかによいコーチになったか、テニスプレイヤー伊達さんがカムバックするという驚きのニュースにも触れていました。いずれも経験が生きるというものでした。
Though she (Ms. Date) is old for a tennis player, her techniques make up more than enough for her old age.
- One-of-a-kind (ユニークな) Ichiro changed way we think about hitting （Hirabayashiさん）
バッティングに対する従来の考え方を変えたイチローについてのAsian Review of Nikkeiの記事でした。 ポイントというべき文としては、”It is not that he saw no value to the latter metric; rather, he always wanted to give more than what others expected of him, to be a player who elicited wows.”

- Loving people can save yourself (Yamazaki)
最近同僚になった女性のカレンダーに女性好みの絵と共に”Loving people can save yourself.”とありました。Brexitはじめ世界的な”Me first”的な動きを絡めてのスピーチをしました。
次回のSMCは7/23です。その後１泊の英語漬けの合宿(「愛川ふれあいの村」)になります。
