2016/06/11(土)SMC

こんにちは。Yamazakiです。 遅くなりましたが、今回はわたしが6月11日のSMCを振り返ります。 今回はK. Narisawaさん、Y. Narisawaさん、Hirabayashiさん、Kanekoさん、Masudaさん、Yamazakiの6名の参加でした。 ConductorはYamazaki、LecturerはHirabayashiさんでした。

今回のConductor。

◆ Opening Remarks

PresidentのK. Narisawaさんのopening remarksはturtleとsnailの競争のたとえ話でした。

Turtleとsnailが道端を歩いていた時に、お互いがぶつかってsnailが撥ねられたとき、snailには「速すぎて何が起こったのか見えなかった」そうです。どちらもノロノロと歩く動物ですが、物事はすべて"relative"だということですね。

◆ Lecture

オバマ大統領の広島訪問スピーチ原稿を全員が読み合せるというものでした。幅広く使えそうな表現を拾いました。

・科学技術がもたらす光と影、人間の感性の向上が伴わない結末を表現したい場合：

Science allows us to cure disease and understand the cosmos. But those same discoveries can be turned into ever more efficient killing machines. The wars of the modern age teach us this truth. Hiroshima teaches this truth. Technological progress without an equivalent progress in human institutions can doom us.

・ヒロシマを風化させてはいけない、核兵器などの最新兵器のもたらす結末に対する想像力を働かさなければいけないなどを表現したい場合：

Some days the voices of the Hibakusha will no longer be with us to bear witness. But the memory of the morning of August 6, 1945 must never fade. That memory allows us to fight complacency. It fuels our moral imagination, it allows us to change.

・核なき世界に進む勇気が必要、というメッセージを伝えたい場合：

Among those nations like my own that hold nuclear stockpiles, we must have the courage to escape the logic of fear and pursue a world without them.

◆ Table topic speech

ラジオ深夜便「ミッドナイトトーク」では「ラジオと私」を特集していました。中村雅俊さん、林真理子さん、堀内孝雄さんなど６人の著名人の「ラジオと私」の話にちなみ、共通のスピーチテーマは「ラジオと私」でした。

◆ Prepared Speech

- Traveling to Chonging (Masudaさん)

中国の重慶での１００人規模の国際会議への出席直前のスピーチでした。重慶のWunlong（武隆）地区は必見のカルスト地形を持つ世界遺産だとのこと。 Wunlong（武隆）の自然景観は下記をご覧ください。 http://www.arachina.com/chongqing/attraction/wulong.htm

- My Taste for Music (Kanekoさん)

Kanekoさんのpet issueである音楽の話題。ビートルズ、竹内まりや、ショパンまで何と幅広いことか。

Prepared speechを披露中のKanekoさんと、カメラ目線のPresident。

- The ways to keep the brain healthy (Y. Narisawa)

脳を健康に保つにはいかにという東北大学教授の話。第１に昔のよき想い出を思い出して、自分が幸せだと思って生活する人は脳が健康でいられる。第２に知的好奇心を持つこと。また、知的好奇心の高さは自分に興味があるかないかが大きく左右する。第３に他人と会話をすること。人の集まりで話をすること。SMCは英語での会話なので脳はフル回転か。最後は音楽。歌を歌ったり、楽器を演奏すること。

- Touchy-feely people, endangered species (K. Narisawa)

学生時代にひとり住まいされていた時に、出会った心優しきよき人（touchy-feely person）のお話。 今回も参考になるイディオム満載で、拾いました。

・a person who has a heart of gold,

・a fancy restaurant ⇔a hole in the wall diner,

・see his acquaintance again who he got out of touch with somehow,

・apologized for my flippancy,

・I suddenly realized I didn’t have any money with me. I had already eaten half of the food, so there was no turning back.

・Gone are the days when people treated others warmly.
